Are You Ready to #Occupy Tustin?
For several weeks now, you have seen the Occupy Movement spread from Wall Street to Irvine. In fact, it may have gotten a bit out of hand up in Oakland where the city government seems to have gotten into the act. They have apparently sanctioned a walkout of city workers, inflating the number of protesters filling the streets and confusing their police officers at the same time. The real danger in Oakland is they don’t seem to be able to tell the difference between a demonstration and a riot.
Occupy came to Orange County nearly a month ago when a lone demonstrator showed up in front of Irvine City Hall wearing a Guy Fawkes mask, which has become a symbol of the protest. It spread to Santa Ana with a great turnout that had the Santa Ana PD wishing they had not reduced the number of mounted police, until they discovered how peaceful and serene the demonstrators actually were. They spent an equal amount of time trying to figure out who should pick up the horse poop. I heard that SAPD was so worried at one point they had called Birmingham, Alabama PD to get tips on handling crowds with waterhoses, but that was just a rumor.
So, now, hold on to your horses. I told you a couple of weeks ago that Occupy would be coming to Tustin and it is just about upon us. In fact, you can join the huge crowd expected in front of the Wells Fargo building on Irvine at Newport Avenue, tomorrow at 3:00 pm. This is perfect timing for me and I plan to be there. I’ve also sent an invitation to Jerry and his Kids over at Tammany Tustin Hall. I’m not sure if they can make it because they have not RSVP’d. I wonder if Hizzoner will follow Oakland Mayor Quan’s lead and give city workers the day off to join the general strike?
For more information and to join the revolution, check the Occupy Organizing Website. See you there!
