-PRESS RELEASE-

PLEASE FORWARD THIS TO YOUR FRIENDS – DON’T LET THEM MISS OUT ON THIS OPPORTUNITY TO TALK DIRECTLY TO A STATEWIDE ELECTED OFFICIAL ON THIS IMPORTANT SUBJECT!!!

Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones has a Letter to the Editor in Today’s OC Register (January 4).  He says in part: “Health insurance represents another rising cost to small businesses and individuals. Rates will continue to rise, even with the implementation of the Affordable Care Act. The best thing we can do to help with health insurance rate increases is establish the legal authority to reject excessive health insurance rate hikes, just as the insurance commissioner has that authority for auto, homeowners, and property and casualty insurance.

Since I was sworn in as insurance commissioner in 2011, we have saved businesses and consumers more than $1.4 billion in premiums for auto, home and property and casualty insurance using the authority granted by Proposition 103. It is well past the time to extend that authority to health insurance rates.”

Come ask State Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones IN PERSON at our Lunch with League event OPEN TO ALL!

Dave-Jones-248x300Dave Jone recently wrote an opinion piece in the Orange County Register decrying the fact that, like workers compensation, health insurance rates were unregulated:

Health insurance represents another rising cost to small businesses and individuals.

It is well past the time to extend that authority to health insurance rates.

Short of eliminating healthcare mandates, regulation and oversight -two things missing from the current mandate- should be implemented to ensure the Affordable Healthcare Act remains just that – affordable.

The League of Women Voters meetings are open to everyone. If you have questions regarding the new California Cover or Affordable Healthcare and how Jones would regulate it, this event would be an excellent time to get your questions answered.
